Andreina Bloom Parisi-Amon: Learners First & Empowering Instructors: Coursera’s Approach to the Creation of the Transformative Learning Experiences

Presenter: Dr. Andreina Bloom Parisi-Amon managers the teaching and learning team at Coursera.

Day 2 Presentation

Online learning is an exciting and growing tool for access to life-transforming learning experiences. However, for those of us working to develop the MOOC platform, content, and services to achieve this goal, the burning question remains: how do we create these transformational experiences?

In this session I’ll discuss Coursera’s “Learners First” approach to the development of learning experiences, from understanding where learners are, to aiding in the creation of content tailored to their needs, focusing on the pedagogy of how to guide great learning. I’ll also discuss how we’re working to empower instructors in their online teaching through the data and feedback available to them before the launch and during the tenure of their content on the platform. In addition to data dashboards that provide analytics on learner engagement and course progress, over the past year we’ve expanded our beta-testing program that provides instructors with targeted learner feedback before the launch of their course and our content A/B testing platform that allows instructors to iteratively test content components for improved learner outcomes. By combining instructor content expertise and passion, insights from our learners, and an innovative teaching and learning space online, together we can help learners achieve their goals and change their lives.
